T-Mobile drops MS phone softwareAnother setback for Microsoft: T-Mobile has announced they are dropping plans an MS-based phone: Europe's second largest mobile phone operator T-Mobile International said on Thursday it had shelved plans to introduce a mobile phone powered by Microsoft software. "We have decided not to introduce this phone," a spokesman for T-Mobile told Reuters at the fringes of a Deutsche Telekom news conference. "For the time being, we are not pursuing this project further."Wow. That's worded quite strongly isn't it? However, we shouldn't forget that Microsoft usually doesn't come up with a good platform product until the third try (Many examples of this: Windows, PocketPC...). Still, I have to wonder how much of this is due to "fundamental problems" and how much it is due to the phone operators trying to keep Microsoft at bay... Update: Martin clued me in a bit after I posted this that apparently T-Mobile had reversed this stance. (Here is post from Gizmodo where they went through the same report-clarification cycle). Hm. Strange... Categories: technologyPosted by diego on May 18 2003 at 3:41 PM Comments (please see the comments & trackback policy).
are sure that you want to suppor that myth let stake some good examples MISE3.0-80% Syglass code licensed from a Univeristy in Illinois Xenix-SCo contracted Unix code in any version never took off under MS marketing shall I go on? How about win3.0? was not good until 3.1 which is not the 3rd try even.. Be carefull about myths believing in them blindly can kill you! :) Posted by: Fred Grott at May 18, 2003 4:47 PMFred, I wasn't saying that this is a 100% rule... it's not a myth, but in general it's true that it takes them a few revs to get something right and widely accepted. This might not have to do with technology so much, but maybe with them getting to understand the new market they are entering... anyway, point well taken :) Posted by: Diego at May 18, 2003 5:01 PMCopyright © Diego Doval 2002-2007.
