the language police"The Older Person and the Water": That's the title given to Hemingway's "The Old Man and The Sea" in some of the US's school textbooks. That's probably the worst example, but there are many more. Read and be amazed. Categories: art.mediaPosted by diego on May 28 2003 at 8:32 PM Comments (please see the comments & trackback policy).
I have read a rather lengthy and detalied summary and review for "The language police". I am a sophmore in high school, and I was made aware of this book by my American Studies teacher. I have to say I was absolutely amazed by what I learned. Censorship is no longer censorship in American schools, but has turned into a growing dictatorship. What could be more inspirational than a young, blind, man climbing a mountain and achieving a dream? Anyone who argues that this passage is bias is clearly full of crap. You can't possibly be serious to think that kids who don't live near mountains will be offended by this passage! Give me a break!
