ning!About an hour ago tonight we took the covers off ning: a playground for building and using social applications on the web (how's that for a brief description?). A super simple way of getting personalized social apps up and running, or a way to experiment without having to worry about all the stuff that's usually, well, way too hard (like, say, DB setup--look ma! no DB!). It's been an incredible year so far, lots of work but lots of fun too, working with a fantastic team. The last few weeks have been... intense. A million of things I want to write about, which for obvious reasons have been sidetracked. Anyway, you can bet I'll be writing more about this later! :-) Categories: ning, soft.devPosted by diego on October 3 2005 at 10:02 PM | TrackBack (5) Comments (please see the comments & trackback policy).
Congrats, Diego. :-) Posted by: Chris Shiflett at October 3, 2005 11:53 PMAh....a post. Good to see you back in the land of the living. It does look like you have been deep in the belly of the beast (based on this picture). http://photosharing.ning.com/index.php?action=photo&id=157421 Congrats...great site. Worth it. Now do get back to posting! And what do you mean "no DB!!" sacrilege Looks very interesting; I wish you every luck! Posted by: Patroklos Argyroudis at October 4, 2005 1:03 AMYeah, congratulations on the launch! Great stuff. Posted by: Phil Gyford at October 4, 2005 1:13 AMCongrats to you and your team Diego. I believe Social Software is one of the next big areas of innovation and opportunities... ceo Congratulations Diego, did you license "shock and awe" tactics from the Republicans? ;-) I found a small bug by the way - when you sign up for Developer status the tag list in the "Thank you.." page is rendered with broken links (no Ning in the URL). Posted by: James Corbett at October 4, 2005 6:00 AMGuys - amazing work. Very promising. Have not been this excited in I don't know how long. Just please hurry up and get me my developer account which I'm ever so patiently waiting for :-) Keep up the good work. Dave Posted by: Dave Killeen at October 4, 2005 8:05 AMCongratulations on getting it decloaked...it looks great at first glance. Cool idea. Look forward to a lot of Ninging (trying to verbiy it already). Posted by: Michael Parekh at October 4, 2005 12:35 PMFinally! Time to have a play about. Well done to you all. Posted by: Martin Little at October 4, 2005 2:08 PMThanks everyone! Dermot: that is truly a scary picture. I need to get some sleep! Posted by: Diego at October 5, 2005 6:40 AMCongrats Diego! Looks v. cool. Posted by: dwlt at October 5, 2005 2:11 PMVery cool. Love the content store and app cloning. Big ideas I think. Can't wait to get out of the developer status queue and dig in. I know y'all have to be getting pounded. It is getting a bit slow. I'd love to get some insight into the onslaught, the response, etc. when it subsides. Posted by: Coty Rosenblath at October 5, 2005 2:32 PMDave: thanks! Coty: indeed, I hope to have some time to talk about this stuff soon. It's been slowish at a few peak times, but generally it's held up ok. It's been quite a ride. :) Posted by: Diego at October 7, 2005 10:35 AMPost a comment
